Stupid statements made by stupid people
Being humans, we are all prone to making stupid statements, sometimes on the spur of the moment. But some people seem to go out of their way to make stupid mistakes. With others,
it just comes naturally with them.
In September 2001, Tony Blair, the former prime minister of the United Kingdom while visiting President George W. Bush in the White House said to the president; "My father's generation went through the experience of the Second World War when Britain was under attack through the days of the Blitz. There was one nation and one people that stood side by side with us at that time, and that nation was America and that people was the American people, who stand side by side with us now." It was Canada that stood side by side with Great Britain during the Blitz. Ninety-seven Canadian airmen flew along side the airmen of the Royal Air Force when fighting the oncoming German bombers and forty-seven of them died in the air battles. The German bombing of England ended in June of 1941. The United States didn’t enter the war until five months later when Germany declared war against the United States in December 1941.
George W. Bush, made a similar gaffe while visiting Tokyo on February 18, 2002. He said to the Japanese officials; "My trip to Asia begins here in Japan for an important reason. It begins here because for a century and a half now, America and Japan have formed one of the great and enduring alliances of modern times. From that alliance has come an era of peace in the Pacific." Apparently this man forgot about America’s war with Japan between December 1941 and August 1945. There was no era of peace in the Pacific during those years and certainly no great and enduring alliance between the United States and Japan during those war years.
Former President Bill Clinton said in a speech on June 13, 1996 in which he was endorsing a national effort against teen pregnancy. "The other thing we have to do is to take seriously the role in this problem of...older men who prey on underage women. There are consequences to decisions and...one way or the other, people always wind up being held accountable." He was later held accountable after he had sex in the White House with a young female intern named Lewinsky.
"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it." That was said by Al Gore, when he was the Vice President of the United States. Thank God he didn’t get to be the president.
Barack Obama, a presidential candidate said in 2007, "In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died -- an entire town destroyed." That was his response to a question about a Kansas tornado that killed 12 people.
Ontario Premier Mitchel Hepburn on December 11, 1938 said during a speech and I quote; “There is a lot of ballyhoo about the idea of having ocean vessels sail into our inland harbors that were built to serve ships (only) drawing 12-18 feet of water. Reconstructing those harbors to serve vessels twice that size would cost more than the total cost of the entire waterways development.” The waterways he was speaking about was opened 21 years later as the St. Lawrence Seaway which makes it possible for large ships to sail right into the Great Lakes. Thousands of large ships have entered the St. Lawrence Seaway and brought millions of tons of goods to the cities bordering the Great Lakes.
(May 29, 2007 ) -- There are certain things one should probably refrain from saying at an airport, and director Mike Figgis unfortunately learned the hard way. Figgis, who directed the movie,"Leaving Las Vegas," was reportedly held for over five hours at Los Angeles International airport after he told immigration officers "I’m here to shoot a pilot." In television, the first episode of a potential television show is called a pilot. However, the agents, apprently not in-the-know with industry terms, took it to mean Figgis had plans to gun down an airline pilot. Figgis was then held in an interrogation cell for five hours, and was released after officers figured out he had no assassination plans.
The American transportation secretary, Frederico Pena's commented after the Value Jet Everglades crash by saying, "They are totally safe." He also said, "Oh yes, I fly them all the time." Three days later he shut down the company, citing it had the worst safety record in the industry.
The Japanese have for the most part, denied that they committed atrocities against the Chinese prior and during the Second World War. Historians has shown however that terrible atrocities were committed by Japanese soldiers. The worst atrocities were committed in the City of Nanking, China for six weeks non stop beginning in December 1937. Between 100,000 and 300,000 unarmed Chinese soldiers, women and children and even babies were slaughtered by the Japanese soldiers by beheading, shooting, bayoneting, and being buried alive and burned to death. Many of the women and girls were raped before they were murdered. In July 2007, Nariaki Nakayama, the head of a group in Japan created to study World War II historical issues and who actually defends the actions of the marauding soldiers in Nanking said, “Japan’s occupation of Nanking was nothing more nor less than an ordinary battlefield.” Calling it a battlefield is like calling an elephant a mouse. There was no battle. The Chinese soldiers had been deserted by their officers so they surrendered and turned over their rifles to the Japanese soldiers as soon as they entered the city. Then the massacre of the soldiers and civilians began. Members of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's Liberal Democratic Party said, “There is no evidence to prove the aerial assault against the Hawaiian naval base, then known as "Pearl Harbor.” They accused Washington of using the alleged incident as a ‘political advertisement.’ Toru Toida, another member of the same group, demanded that photographs portraying the Japanese military in a negative light be removed from U.S. war memorials. He said, "We are absolutely positive that there was no attack on Pearl Harbor." Yeah, sure and the Japanese didn’t attack China and the Philippines either. It’s all a myth. If you believe that, I have a bridge I want to sell you. It’s in Brooklyn. The Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe said when complaining about the Americans continuously stating that the Japanese soldiers committed atrocities against helpless citizens and attacked Pear Harbour, “We can’t allow that for the sake of Japan’s honour.” Where was Japan’s honour when they attacked, China, Pearl Harbour and nations in South Asia without first making a declaration of war?
"Now tell me the truth boys, is this kind of fun?" –House Majority Leader Tom Delay to three young hurricane evacuees from New Orleans at the Astrodome in Houston, Sept. 9, 2005
Pat Robertson, a religious leader in the United States had this to say about women. "I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband. Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that's the way it is, period.”I wonder if he has any female followers.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of California was asked about gay marriages. His reply was; “I think gay marriage should be between a man and a woman.”
"Outside of the killings, Washington has one of the lowest crime rates in the country." That was said by Mayor Marion Barry, Washington, DC. They didn’t call that city, ‘Murder City’ for nothing.
"Smoking kills. If you're killed, you've lost a very important part of your life." That was a comment to an interviewer by movie actress Brooke Shields, during an interview to become the spokesperson for the federal anti-smoking campaign.
"Your food stamps will be stopped effective March 1992 because we received notice that you passed away. May God bless you. You may reapply if there is a change in your circumstances." That was from a letter sent by the Department of Social Services, in Greenville, South Carolina.
"What's Wal-Mart? Do they sell, like wall stuff?" That was said by Paris Hilton. Obviously, having money doesn’t mean you automatically have brains.
“When you say I committed adultery, are you stating before the marriage of 1996 or prior to?" This was said by Dallas Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders. Duhh!
"He speaks English, Spanish, and he's bilingual too." That was said by boxing promoter, Don King
"Predictions are difficult, especially about the future." That was said by Yogi Berra, a famous baseball player.
"I don't think anybody should write his autobiography until after he's dead." That was said by Samuel Goldwyn, movie producer.
I was asked to come to Chicago because Chicago is one of our fifty-two states." That was said by Racquel Welch, a movie actress.
“I get to go to lots of overseas places, like Canada." That was said by Britney Spears, a singer or whatever. This twit also said, "I've never really wanted to go to Japan. Simply because I don't like eating fish. And I know that's very popular out there in Africa."
The latest hour-and-a-half worth of video from the al-Qaida Lecture Series has its number two man, Ayman al-Zawahiri, giving the phrase, 'sleeper' cells a whole new meaning. Here's a typical line: "The stage preceding victory is normally, in the history of nations, the stage in which there is most seen an increase in conspiracies, plots and inciting of discord in an attempt by the enemy, who has begun to see his defeat approach, to push back and delay the defeat as much as he can." ZZZZzzzzz
There you have it. I will publish more later
