ANGELS: Do they really exist?

A great many people believe that angels really exist. According to a recent Gallup poll, 82% of women and 72% of men believe in angels.

What is an angel?

According to Peter   Kreeft, the author of his book;  ANGELS AND DEMONS: What do we really know about them? He has this to say about them on page 47 of his book.

Everything in this universe is made of something such as sub atomic particles at least but not angels. They are not made of matter. They have no parts and that’s why they can’t fall apart and die or be destroyed like we can. They are pure spirits, not any kind of matter or physical energy at all. Angels don’t belong in this universe. They’re visitors. unquote

Cecily Channer, the author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Connecting With Your Angels claims that you're no idiot if you're captivated by these unseen spiritual guides. She claims that angels are all around us and that all we have to do when we are in trouble is ask your personal angel for help and you shall receive the help you are seeking. She claims that each of us is being served and supported by the angelic realm, through good times and bad.  I can think of instances when people praying to God for help, died anyway. What makes this woman think that praying to angels would get us better results?

She has stated that that she is a certified angel therapy practitioner. How does one become certified as an angel therapy practitioner? Apparently you can become certified when you pay $999.00 US and you attend a four-day course in learning how to heal others and connect them with angels. They state in their website that their staff offers optional private readings for a nominal fee during the course, to help you with personalized guidance. In addition, during the course you will give and receive dozens of angel readings with other Interns, to help you clarify your divine guidance. I know two psychiatrists who will certify you if you are stupid enough to spend that kind of money to attend those sessions.

Channer says that connecting with angels is life changing She contends that; “When the angels enter our lives, building closer relationships, finding success, and experiencing joy all become less of a struggle and more of a way of life.”  unquote

She further adds that “If you believe in angels, you shall receive their help. At any time we can ask for angelic guidance and assistance in our daily life. No request is too big or too small, if it is the will of God. The angels' main goals are to help, protect, heal, as well as raise the consciousness level of all humanity.”  unquote

I like the way she backtracks from declaring that angels will always help you by saying; “If it is the will of God when things are just not working for us, angels as a loving light and presence in the storms of our lives, will help us recognize our inborn power, courage, and deep understanding to wisely navigate through our days and get back on track.” unquote

 According to Channer, we live in difficult times. We certainly don’t need her or anyone else to tell us that information. She further states; “Uncertainty and fear is washing over so many. An angelic realm wants to be of service to each and every one of us to assist in eradicating our fears and bringing more peace into our lives.” unquote

I can’t help but wonder if she is a shill for the people who are asking for $999 US from us to attend that four-day function in which we will learn all about the power of angels.

“Enjoy the fun and atmosphere designed to help you to connect with your Higher Self’s joy and spiritual gifts.” unquote

Perhaps you can get the same fun out of attending tea leaves sessions with the local fortune teller. It will be a lot cheaper.

But back to my question: Do angels really exist? The Greek word aggelos means ‘messenger’ and as such angels are described as bearing messages from God to the patriarchs. There is nothing in the Bible that states that angels ‘actually assisted ordinary folk in seeing that their wishes were granted however there are a hundred instances where angels allegedly gave messages to some biblical figures. In Mathew, Chapter 1, Verse 20, it says;

But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.”

This doesn’t mean that they really exist simply because the Bible says they do.  The writers of the Bible were very free in exercising their poetic licence to exaggerate. As an example, consider how heaven is described in Chapter 21 of Revelations in which the writer is describing what he sees in the future with respect to the city of Jerusalem. It says; And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

If you really believe that is a correct description of what Jerusalem is going to look like in the future, then you obviously believe that angels really exist. And if you do, then milk that belief for all its worth and if your belief makes you feel better for it, then I am happy for you.

However, let me warn you. Don’t depend on help from an angel. Millions died hoping an angel would come to their aid. Let me say this to you; If you want to seek a helping hand, look to the bottom of your arm or the bottom of another person’s  arm.”
