Acts of stupidity (part IX)
We all sometimes do stupid things in our lives but some people are
really stupid and this article is about really stupid people.
The coach who showed videos
of school girls
Ozell Williams, the cheerleading
coach at East High School in Denver, drew scrutiny after videos were made
public showing teenage girls screaming in pain as they are forced into painful
poses. The videos show Williams, along with other cheerleaders, pushing
students into full splits while they scream in agony.
Tom Boasberg, Denver Public
Schools Superintendent, announced Williams’ termination. He also said that the district hired an outside law firm, Davis, Graham &
Stubbs, to investigate the matter. Denver police have also been
investigating the incident.
One of the gruesome videos shows
Ally Wakefield, 13, being held down by three teammates and Williams, while the
girl is screaming, “Please stop, please stop, please stop!” Additional
video clip showed one of her teammates experiencing similar
agony while she is also forced into a split pose.
Boasberg condemned the actions in
the videos, which reportedly were filmed during the team’s summer camp in June.
He called them “extraordinarily distressing” and “deeply disturbing.”
He also said, “Under no
circumstances should a young person be in a situation where they are suffering
physical or emotional harm,”
Boasberg said the videos were
brought to the school’s attention in June when a student’s parents raised
concerns about the use of ‘forced splits.’ School administrators met the next day with the
student, her parents and the coaches to discuss the matter, which
they believed had been “resolved.”
Boasberg said,”At
that meeting, the school leadership team believed they had addressed and
resolved the parents’ and student’s concerns, It is now clear they had not.” He
also said the decision not to terminate Williams immediately was “wrong.”
Williams, who was previously
fired from another job and reportedly was passed over for another gig due to
his association with the coaching practice, claims the videos were taken out of
context.
“You can definitely say that what
was in the video could be seen in a different light,” Williams told the Denver Post. “I would love to
tell my story, but I can’t say anything else at this time.”
Principal Andy Mendelsberg,
assistant principal Lisa Porter, assistant cheerleading coach Mariah Cladis and
an attorney for Denver Public Schools have been placed on leave pending the
ongoing investigations.
As far as I am
concerned, their services should be terminated and Williams should be
criminally charged with assault.
On the website
for Mile High Tumblers, the 28-year-old Ozel
Williams claimed to be “an Olympic athlete having won three Team USA First
place rings in preliminary games”– but he has never been a member of an Olympic
team or competed at an Olympic Games.
The U.S.
Olympic Committee confirmed that Williams was never on any Olympic roster. A
spokesperson for USA Gymnastics added
that there is no record of him being invited to the Olympic Gymnastics Trials,
let alone winning three ring titles.
A 2011 profile of Williams referred to him
as “a member of the USA Olympic Cheer Leader Team for 2012 in London.” A group of U.S. cheerleaders performed at men’s
basketball semi-final and final games at the 2012 London Olympics, and it’s
possible that Williams was a member of that squad. But that would not make him
an Olympic athlete.
This stupid man
made the following statement years ago; “I think Mars
is the limit for me instead of the sky, because I reach up, above and beyond
all that.”
Well, he did reach
some dizzy heights but like all fools, his fall from grace has destroyed his
reputation. permanently.
A strong team culture
is the foundation to any successful organization, whether in sports, business,
politics, or the military. Team members have to be united towards a common
goal, and constantly put that goal before their own needs and wants. The leader
directs the energy of the team, and to do so effectively, requires respect and
loyalty from each team member. However, what is most important is that the
leader must be honest and devoted to the welfare of his fellow members because
if that honesty and devotion is missing, the teal suffers.
I don’t know if the
cheer leaders at the High School that suffered from William’s abuse will return
as cheer leaders again but if they do, they are to be complemented for their courage
and devotion to their school.
A woman who applied
for the wrong job
Kristina Hoefs, of the City
of Manchester, had applied for the job at the Hillsborough County Department of
Corrections in the State of New Hampshire. She was hoping to get a job as a female guard.
Now I don’t know if you
know this but if anyone applies for a job in a jail or a prison, that person will
be first investigated to make sure that he or she are not a criminal on the lam
or waiting for a trial
that is pending.
The results of the investigation showed that she
was wanted for a theft-related criminal charge in the state of Maine.
Hoefs was taken into
custody and taken to police headquarters. She was later scheduled for
arraignment, I don’t know what happened immediately after her arrest but you
can be sure of two things. First, she didn’t get the job and second she was
extradited to Maine to face the charge.
When someone applies for a job in
any correctional facility, as sure as God made little apples, one of the
questions being asked in the application form is; “Have you ever been charged
and/or convicted of a felony in any state in the United Sates?”
Now if an applicant who has any
semblance of a working brain has such a record or is wanted by the police knows
that there will be an investigation of the particulars written by the applicant
in the form.
Obviously Hoefs’ brain was not in
working condition when she applied for that particular job. If her brain was
fully functional, she would have walked out of that facility when she saw the
questions in the application form.
I have many more cases of stupidity of other
persons that you will enjoy to read about in the future.
